Course Description:
Math in the 8th grade focuses heavily on Algebra concepts necessary for success in high school mathematics courses. While 8th grade math does strengthen skills learned in 7th grade in other areas of math such as geometry and probability, an algebra foundation will be laid in 8th grade which will be essential to building concepts in further courses.
This year, students in the 8th grade must take and pass the math and reading portions of the TAKS test in order to be promoted to high school.
Course Requirements:
· Classroom attendance and behavior as established by the district and teacher
· Class participation – attentiveness in class and effort in all tasks and assignments.
· A year-end average of 70 or higher must be achieved to receive course credit.
Grading:
· Daily Grades = 50%
Daily grades consist of work completed during class as well as homework assignments.
· Tests = 50%
Test grades are comprised of formal assessments given at the end of each unit and any projects assigned, as well as spiral check grades.
